During 2008, nearly one-tenth of drug-related emergency department visits made by American adolescents, ages 12-17, involved suicide attempts. Almost three of every four visits were made by females. Pharmaceuticals were involved in 95.4% of drug-related suicide attempts among adolescents. More than three-fourths of the visits ended with evidence of follow-up care. (5 notes)
