In September 2008, the Queensland government funded a rural & remote Indigenous communities suicide prevention project, Pathways to Resilience (P2R). A final evaluation of the project aimed to assess the completion of the project objectives, measure the immediate effects of the program, & identify the lessons learned along the way. 6 common themes related to the success of the program were identified: strong community ownership & empowerment; cultural appropriateness of activities; awareness raising & safe environment focussed activities; the strong capacity building focus of the model & processes; formation of strong community partnerships & networks; & flexibility in the range of activities to ensure they addressed community needs.
