In order to study the relationship between attempted suicide & the menstrual cycle, 74 attempt patients admitted the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh were interviewed in regard to the details of their menstrual cycles. A study of 74 patients admitted to the Regional Poisoning Treatment Centre at the Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh, failed to reject the null hypothesis that parasuicide occurs at random in relation to the menstrual cycle.

This article identifies and explores five main contributors to the problem of adolescent suicide: biochemical depression, hormonal change, diet, premenstrual syndrome, birth control pills & other drugs.
