Themes of Interaction in Medical Students’ Rorschach Responses as Predictors of Midlife Health or Disease

This study examines the role of human relationships as a psychological factor in the development of cancer. Variations in approaches to human relationships were tested by Rorschach test in a cohort of healthy medical students. The Relationship Between Suicide and Homicide

Attempted and Gestured Suicide in Adolescent Girls (Micro HV 6546 D65 1968)

Study of attempted suicide among adolescent girls, in particular to discriminate between those suicide attempters whose attempts carry a low risk of ending in death (a gesture) and those attempters whose acts carry a high risk of ending in death. The value of the Rorschach test in discriminating between these behaviors is discussed. (KB)

The Color-Shading Response and Suicide

Color-shading determinant was found significantly more among suicide and attempt groups than among controls. Color-shading responses are discussed in relation to suicide-potential as they reflect sensitive, articulate and penetrating, insightful activity with perhaps clarification of a single problem area and a resultant loss of overall perspective.

Suicidal Behavior in Adolescents and its Relationship to the Lack of Parental Empathy (Micro HV 6546 H54 1969)

Investigation of the differences between empathic capacity of parents of suicidal adolescents as compared to parents of other emotionally disturbed adolescents who were not suicidal and a group of well-adjusted adolescents and parents. The three groups were administered the Peebles Checklist of Personality Traits, an adaption of the Jones Ego Identity Scale and of the […]

Predicting Adolescent Suicidal Behavior and the Order of Rorschach Measurement

48 psychiatrically hospitalized adolescents were divided into 4 groups according to suicidal behaviour: previous suicide attempt only, psychiatric unit attempts only, dual attempt, & nonsuicidal control. ANOVA applied to composite Rorschach Multiple Sign scores was highly significant. A cutoff score of 4 signs was identified as a predictor of suicidal behaviour, although none of the […]

Attempted Suicide in Alaskan Eskimos: A Rorschach Study of Ego Function (Micro E 98 S9S53 1977)

Study to examine the psychodynamics of suicidal behavior among the Alaskan Eskimos by conducting a psychological evaluation of Eskimo suicide attempters. Emphasis is placed upon an analysis of the suicide attempter’s ego functioning as determined from the content of the Rorschach Protocol. Five specific functions are used to establish a suicide profile: realtiy testing, drive […]

An Indicator of the Rorschach: A Replication

In an attempt to replicate previous findings in which response to D6 on Card 7 of the Rorschach was found to differentiate suicidal from nonsuicidal schizophrenic patients,Rorschach records of 14 suicidal and 14 nonsuicidal schizophrenic patients were searched for specific response to D6 on Card 7. Analyses by means of X2 showed no significant differences […]

Sect.I. Terms are defined & the triangle model is described. Sect.II. Focuses on assessment methods. Sect.III. Focuses on intervention & includes a prevention plan. Sect.IV. Provides resources for suicide prevention. Finally, a discussion on suicide of youth & the elderly is presented.

Suicide, Homicide, and Color Shading Response on the Rorschach

Replicability of Rorschach Signs With Known Degrees of Suicidal Intent

This study examines the hypotheses that Rorschach signs of suicide are more likely to be replicated if criteria of suicide are carefully specified and if attention is given to the time interval between Rorschach administration and the date of suicide. Each subject was given a suicidal intention score based on rating three aspects of his […]

Cross-Validation of a Rorschach Checklist Associated With Suicidal Tendencies

Martin’s signs for suicidal tendency are significantly related to suicide attempts (concurrent validity) and to severity of psychiatric illness.

Psychological Assessment of Suicidal Risk (RC 574 N47 1974)

Eleven papers evaluating suicidal risk assessment procedures from three general approaches. Firstly assessment via lethality scales which are behavioral and demographic in origin. Secondly traditional risk assessment evaluations through the use of psychological tests and thirdly an approach developed out of the information gleaned from intensive survey researches of the characteristics of suicidal individuals. (KB)

Prediction of Successful Suicide From the Rorschach Test, Using a Sign Approach

6 of 17 signs differentiated successful suicides from controls at a statistically significant level, whereas 1 sign differentiated attempted from successful suicides. Sign totals obtained by suicide attempts and successful suicides were statistically significantly higher than controls.

Cognitive Controls and Fantasied Motion in Suicidal Children (Micro HV 6546 B47 1980)

The study explored differences in cognitive control functioning and fantasied motion in a sample of 123 psychiatrically hospitalized children using the Santostefano Cognitive Control Battery and the Santostefano Rorschach Motility Scale. (KB)

A Personality Study of Suicidal Schizophrenics (Micro RC 569 B45 1949)

Study to determine whether significant differences between the personalities of suicidal and non-suicidal schizophrenics could be determined through the utilization of projective techniques. In addition, the various indicators and patterns appearing in the techniques were studied to determine their efficacy in differentiating between these two schizophrenic groups. (KB)

A New Experimental Approach to the Relationship Between Color-Shading and Suicide Attempts

Developed a color-shading technique to study the previously demonstrated relationship between Rorschach Test color-shading responses & suicide attempts. Of 17 matched pairs of hospitalized psychiatric patients (age range 19-47 yrs), those who had attempted suicide gave significantly more shading responses to chromatic cards than those who had no history of suicide attempts. Results suggest that […]
