Cortisol in the CSF of Depressed and Suicidal Patients

19 depressed patients had significantly higher cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) cortisol levels than did 30 healthy controls. In 12 obsessive-compulsive & 12 depressed subjects treated with clomipramine hydrochloride, the levels were significantly reduced. Cortisol levels in CSF were significantly correlated with mean urinary cortisol excretion.
