In 398 cases of depressive psychosis, divided into 5 groups according to the presence and persistence of obsessions before and during the depression, the suicide attempt rate was lower for the depressives with obsessions persisting throughout the depression than for those exhibiting obsessions only transiently or not at all during the depression. In itself the presence or absence or predepressive obsessions made no difference in the suicide attempt rate.
