This paper offers a brief summary of points of interest from the WHO report as well as a view on how Australia is performing against some of the criteria set out in the WHO report as important for a successful national suicide prevention strategy. It identifies six key elements to support national suicide prevention strategies: Make suicide prevention a multisectoral priority, regardless of resources; Tailor for diversity; Establish best practices; Allocation of resources (finances, time, staff); Effective planning and collaboration; and Use of evaluation findings and sharing lessons learned.
