The Role of Parental Bonding and Early Maladaptive Schemas in the Risk of Suicidal Behavior Repetition
Dale R~~Power K~~et al
Participants in this study completed measures of perceived parental bonding, schemas, risk of repeating suicidal behaviour, anxiety, & depression following their presentation at Accident & Emergency with suicidal behaviour. 60 suicidal behaviour subjects differed from 46 clinical & 48 non-clinical subjects on measures of early maladaptive schemas, anxiety, & depression. No significant difference was noted between the suicidal behaviour group & the comparison clinical group on a measure of parental bonding. Within the suicidal behaviour group, significant associations were indicated between perceived parental bonding & early maladaptive schemas & risk of repetition of suicidal behaviour. Early maladaptive schemas were found to mediate the relationship between perceived parental bonding & risk of repetition of suicidal behaviour. (61 refs.) JA
