This paper reports on 159 suicides during 2003-2004 & examined post-mortem in an unidentified district of India. A detailed study was done of age, gender, time of suicide, socioeconomic status, education, & precipitating conditions. Information was also sought from victims’ relatives & suicide notes, where available. Psychosocial factors, like family disputes, played a greater role as compared to mental or physical illness.
