This study examined levels of hopelessness in a Spanish university population, analyzed the relationship of hopelessness with the process of adapting to university, & analyzed the relationships between hopelessness, depression, psychopathology, & suicide ideation. 1277 first- & second-year students participated. 13.9% of students presented moderate or severe levels of hopelessness. Students with greater levels of hopelessness were dissatisfied with different aspects of university life. The relationship between hopelessness, depression, & suicide ideation was clearly seen.
