Alarming data about the frequency of suicide attempts & suicide in Serbian young people, ages 15-24 years, call attention to the significance of identifying factors influencing suicidality in this population. This article reviews the contribution of various psychiatric disorders on suicidal behaviour, including depression, schizophrenia, substance abuse, conduct disorders, eating disorders, & borderline personality disorder. It is suggested that persons working with hospitalized adolescents pay constant attention to possible expressions of various forms of suicidal behaviour. (17 refs.)
