Low-income countries in Asia & the Pacific have the highest burden of suicide in the world. The distinctions between risk groups & suicide methods not only indicate the urgent need for suicide research & intervention, but also raise the question of whether strategies designed for populations in high-income countries are appropriate for developing countries & culturally diverse settings. This editorial explores these issues & suggests some strategies for suicide prevention in these nations. (6 refs.)
