This study reports data pertaining to deaths among reproductive age group women in Maharashtra, India along with factors contributing to these deaths. House-to-house surveys of a representative population were undertaken. A total of 103 deaths were investigated; 95 of these were due to non-maternal causes. Suicides were the leading cause of death in the injury & poisoning category. All of the suicides occurred in rural areas. Five of the seven suicides occurred in the age group, 15-24 years. (13 refs.)
