This article reviews the relevant scientific evidence & provides practical cognitive psychological measures to guide improved well-being for dentists. Any stigma-related factors need to be acknowledged & addressed for the well-being of dentists & their patients. The dental profession is well placed to provide leadership on this issue; peer support is central to meeting this challenge. There is no estimate of the suicide risk among Irish dentists or knowledge of the factors that may contribute to this risk. A research study to address this gap would help to inform early intervention & prevention policies. (29 refs.) JA
