This chapter begins with an overview of the difficulties inherent in using a personality measure to predict suicide, followed by a review of the extensive Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory that was targeted towards that objective. Next, information is provided on new items that were included on the MMPI-2 & the MMPI-A that are of potential use in the assessment of suicide, followed by a review on the extant literature on suicide assessment with the MMPI-2 & MMPI-A. Recommendations are offered about the use of the MMPI-2 & the MMPI-A in the assessement of suicide & suicide potential. The chapter concludes with a case presentation on the MMPI-A. (55 refs.)
