Inmates in the custody of federal & provincial corrections facilities are considered to be a group at high risk of suicide. This paper provides a statistical profile of inmate suicides in Canada & examines some of the research into the key precipitating factors & causes involved in inmate suicide. It also discusses various intervention, treatment, & prevention programs in Canada, the United States, & Great Britain. (25 refs.)
