This presentation discussed the findings of a literature review exploring the effects of parental absence on suicidality. More than 50 studies were reviewed. Generally, results supported the hypothesized relationship between suicidal behaviour & childhood parental loss. However, the evidence was stronger to support such a relationship with suicide attempts rather than suicide. Methodological issues were also examined.
