This report presents an analysis of the incidence of self-poisoning in Mauritius. Statistics are provided on the number of suicide attempts (patients admitted to public sector hospitals), 1997-2004. The authors review epidemiological data on 147 patients admitted to a regional general hospital because of self-poisoning between August 2004-July 2005. Implications for suicide prevention strategies are outlined. (5 refs.)
