This article outlines a procedure for physicians assessing a patient’s suicide risk. The precipating factors, the degree of suicidal intent, the motivation for suicide, & the lethality of the suicide attempt all have to be taken into consideration. It is recommended that patients at significant risk be hospitalized. (31 refs.)
