This chapter describes the experiences of a doctoral student (Maple) & her mentor (Edwards) in the application of narrative inquiry methodology in a study that examined parental stories of the suicide of their young adult child. The chapter is structured to allow readers to experience a narrative mode of writing & to think about how to analyze data using this method. The authors take turns in providing a view of the research, the analytic process, & the ways in which narrative inquiry can be used with relation to a particular study. (15 refs.)
