Alienation, Discrimination, and Racial Identity in Suicidal Ideation and Depression Among Black Adolescents

Associations between perceived discrimination, perceptions of racism, feelings of alienation & depression, suicide ideation, & suicide attempts in African American adolescents were examined. Study participants completed a questionnaire packet. Feelings of alientation appear to be associated with suicide ideation in African American adolescents. There also appears to be a significant relationship between depressive symptoms, perceived discrimination, & racial identity.
