Haldimand-Norfolk Health Stats: Mental Health Report With a Focus on Suicide 2009

This rpeort compares suicide data for Haldimand & Norfolk counties with data for Ontario, & provides an overview of some of the available programs, services, & resources. A case study of an adolescent with suicide ideation is also presented. Overall, the average age-standardized mortality rate from suicide was lower for females in Haldimand & Norfolk than the rest of Ontario but higher for males. Over the period 2003-2007, there were 557 emergency room presentations for suicide attempts in Haldimand & Norfolk. In 2007, 11.8% of residents of these two counties, age 15 & over, reported having suicidal thoughts in their lifetime.
