This editorial discusses some of the findings from the Prevention of Suicide in Primary Care Elderly: Collaborative Trial (PROSPECT). This programme was designed to improve the outcomes of depression – & thereby reduce the rate of suicide ideation – by using a collaborative stepped-care approach. The author concludes that this trial offers promise but there is still work to be done in the prevention of suicide among the aged. (12 refs.)
