In this article, the authors review & summarize the research on the impact of suicide on individuals within families & on family & social networks. Family changes following suicide are discussed first. Next, the effects of suicide on social networks overall & responses of children & the elderly to a familial suicide are discussed. Finally, key issues are identified that remain to be resolved in family survivor research & recommendations are made for future studies. (42 refs.)
