Counseling Suicidal Adolescents Within Family Systems: Ethical Issues

Major ethical considerations must be taken into account when providing counselling services to suicidal adolescents & their families. This article explores these issues & the American Counseling Association & International Association of Marriage & Family Counselors ethical codes relevant to these issues. Related liability & malpractice information is also discussed, including how counsellors can follow professionally accepted standards of care & what must be done to improve client care & decrease the chance of a lawsuit.
