This research retrieved 33 studies that reported immigrant suicide rates for nearly 50 nationalities in seven host countries (Australia, Austria, Canada, England, the Netherlands, Sweden, & the USA). Total population immigrant & country-of-birth suicides rates were strongly positively associated. The effect generalized across both genders, host countries, & study periods. The correspondence of these rates is consistent with the assumption of population differences in the prevalence of genetic risk factors for suicide. (123 refs.)
