Gender differences in psychiatric symptoms related to suicide ideation in 199 Japanese patients diagnosed with a major depressive disorder were examined. Multivariate analysis using the stepwise method distinguished gender differences. Low social/family support & depersonalization were statistically significantly associated with suicide ideation in men, while depressive moods & an anxiety state were significantly associated with suicide ideation in women. The relation between derealization & suicide ideation was statistically significant in women but not significant in men. (42 refs.)
