This article examines suicide contagion among young people. The association of suicide & media coverage is discussed as are suicide clusters. The characteristics of young people who might be susceptible to contagion are outlined. The mechanisms of suicide contagion are described. The suicide of Kurt Cobain is briefly discussed as a situation where contagion seemed likely but did not occur. Strategies are presented to prevent contagion among young people. (10 refs.)
