The purpose of this article is to introduce social scientists to the Pearson System of Frequency Curves. This procedure is an important tool in the identification of a wide range of statistical distributions from empirical data. Several examples are provided, including the frequency distribution of Finnish male & female suicide by age for the year 1961. (10 refs.)
