In this letter to the editor, Salib & Tadros comment on an earlier study by Yip & Liu (2006) on suicide in China where females rates are higher than those among males. Salib & Tadros note this reversal of usual gender patterns is also seen in some communities in India & among immigrants from the Indian subcontinent in Britain. They also note that many suicide bombings have been carried out by women. The conclude high female suicide rates are a reality. Liu & Yip’s response follows. (9 refs.)
