In this letter to the editor, the authors note that in a sample of 147 suicide cases, general practitioners’ records indicated 98 subjects had been to see their doctor in the three months before their death. 76 of these 98 visits were for low back pain. The authors suggest low back pain should alert practitioners to inquire about how patients are coping & to ask about suicide ideation if any concerns arise. (1 ref.)
