This report provides a brief overview of the number of suicides in London (UK) in 2002-2004 & updates trends. Progress has been made in reducing suicide rates in London, particularly among young adults but overall rates are not declining as rapidly as in previous years. Restricting the number of paracetamol in a package & changes in prescribing practices might have had a positive impact on the proportion of suicides by drug-related poisoning; however, medicine management strategies need to address the fact that paracetamol & antidepressants remain the most common drugs used in drug-related suicides.
