The author asserts adolescent suicide is a problem that must be carefully addressed by schools. In reviewing the current knowledge base, he deduces certain programmatic response plans. He sees a role for the school in prevention (suicide education & the identification of at-risk adolescents), in early intervention (initial risk assessment, reducing lethality, & providing support & psychological first aid), & in postvention (attending to the needs of bereaved survivors & the containment of suicide clusters).
