This study investigated whether the relationship between problem music & self-injurious behaviours among fans is mediated by self-esteem, delinquency, & conservatism, & whether first exposure to problem music preceded self-injurious thoughts. A liking for problem music was associated with 4 of the 5 self-injurious measures, although these significant relationships were weakened into nonsignificance in 2 cases when the mediating variables were included. Listening to problem music did not precede self-injurious throughts. (30 refs.)
