The objective of this article is to describe identifiers & estimate maternal & neonatal outcomes in women who attempt suicide during pregnancy in California from 1991-1999. Vital Statistics-Patient Discharge database was examined. Those who had attempted suicide had increased in premature labour, caesarean delivery, respiratory distress syndrome, & a low birth rate in infants. The author concludes attempted suicide is associated with higher rates of maternal & perinatal morbidity. (27 refs.)(CH)
