This study was done to estimate the incidence of repetition of suicide attempt, suicide & all deaths, & to analyse the influence of psychiatric illness & sociodemographic factors on these. The study is a Danish register-based survival analysis. The average follow-up period for suicide attempters was 3.88 years, during which 271 (10.37%) of them died. Death occurred 4 times more often among attempters than among non-attempters. The most reliable predictors for suicide & death were repetition, method, & treatment for mental illness. The most reliable predictors for repetition were age, gender, & mental illness. (28 refs.)
