A meta-analysis was conducted on all studies of suicide mortality in follow-up studies of patients with schizophrenia that presented data for male & female patients separately. The percentage of deaths from suicide was significantly greater for the male patients with schizophrenia than for female patients with schizophrenia in studies where both sexes were included. The percentage of deaths from suicide was predicted after the entire sample had died estimated that 0.50% of male patients with schizophrenia would die by suicide compared to 0.20% of female patients with schizophrenia.
