All patients, aged 16-21 years, admitted to the University Hospitals of Geneva and Lausanne for suicide attempt or ideation between April 2000-September 2001 were included in this study. The final sample included 149 girls & 37 boys. The participation rate at two follow-up points was 66% & 62% respectively. 91% of subjects met the criteria for psychiatric diagnoses. Most subjects had more than one disorder. Around 90% of subjects interviewed in the follow-ups had received care after their hospitalisation, either by a primary care physician, a psychotherapist, or both. Over the 18-month follow-up period, 2 subjects died & 18% made a further suicide attempt. (51 refs.)
