This article discusses what lawmakers can do to prevent death by suicide among adolescents & youth. One way that legislatures can support practitioners, school officials, & parents is to provide more education about the risk factors for youth suicide, another way is to improve the school environment so students feel more connected & supported. Other suggestions include funding mental health services for troubled students, requiring professional screening of students for early signs of suicidal behaviour & restricting access to firearms.
