Suicidal Ideation and Suicide Attempts in Treatment-seeking Pathological Gamblers

The study assessed rates & correlates of suicidal ideation & suicide attempts in individuals seeking treatment for pathological gambling. 342 pathological gamblers completed the Addiction Severity Index & South Oaks Gambling Screen. Participants were categorized into 3 groups: no suicidal ideation, suicidal ideation alone, & suicide attempters. The data confirms other reports of high rates of suicidality in pathological gamblers & may suggest the need for more intensive & focused treatments in pathological gamblers with suicidality.
