This article discusses a five-year-old boy with a case of repeated self-induced poisonings & injuries in the United Kingdom. Upon examination, the boy demonstrates serious psychopathology & expressed ambivalence in relation to suicidality. The author concludes that in training of general practitioners, paediatricians, & psychiatrists alike, attention should be given to this area of study. (16 refs.)(CH)
