The authors present the findings of a study that evaluated ratings of the utility of 3 no-suicide contracts. The raters were 112 college students, of whom 40% admitted to suicidal ideation in the past. The contracts varied from quite simple (1 sentence) to moderately simple (2 sentences) to complex (6 points). Contract ratings asked whether the contracts would be effective on 10 specific points. The complex contract received the most positive ratings. A copy of the detailed contract is included.
