Discussion Paper for the Development of a Suicide Prevention Strategy for the Winnipeg Health Region

The purpose of this paper is to present a description of what is understood to date about the problem of suicide including statistical analysis, identification of high-risk populations & models of suicide causation. Suicide prevention strategies that have been developed both in Canada & in other jurisdictions are described. Initial recommendations regarding the development of a suicide prevention plan specifically for the Winnipeg region are provided. (90 refs)
