This article summarizes the findings of the 1999 Boston Public Health Commission study of mental health disturbance among Boston’s children & adolescents, and reviews the policy changes that followed its release in 2000. The Commission’s findings regarding rates of depression, suicidal ideation, attempt, & completion amongst Boston youth are discussed, along with implications for the development of a mental health agenda for young people in Boston.
