The purpose of this article is to provide a brief overview of U.S. injury mortality among Hispanics, of past research, & of recommended research needs in the field of injury prevention & control. U.S. mortality data from the National Center for Health Statistics from 1990 to 1998 were summarized. It was found that 15,366 Hispanics died by suicide between 1990 & 1998, making suicide the 12th leading cause of death among Hispanics. Differences in age, sex, geographic location, & means of death are discussed. (58 refs)
