This article is part of a series addressing issues related to psychiatric inpatient suicide. The present instalment focuses on the development of a meaningful nurse-patient relationship as an effective means of intervention in inpatient settings. Humane interaction between caregivers & patients is encouraged, & the process of an effective suicide intervention, beginning at intake, is outlined. Challenges to intervention are identified.
