This article emphasizes geriatric mental health, including issues & barriers that have affected the diagnosis & treatment of mental health problems & psychiatric disorders in older adults. Areas of concern identified in recent Surgeon General’s reports on older adult suicide & mental health are presented. A case example is used to illustrate key issues in geriatric mental health care.
