This study aimed to address a gap in the current research with regard to gender differences among adolescent substance users who report low versus acute levels of traumatic stress symptoms. 274 male & 104 female adolescents enrolled in drug treatment programs were examined with regard to substance use, mental health (including suicidality), physical health, & HIV risk-taking behaviour. Results indicated significant differences between males & females & between those reporting low versus acute levels of traumatic stress. (46 refs)
