The author reviews the book “Suicide: Individual, Cultural, International Perspectives,” edited by A A Leenaars, R W Maris & Y Takahashi. The papers published here were initially presented as the keynote core works at the 1996 Annual Meeting of the American Association of Suicidology, & published in 1997 as an issue of Suicide & Life-Threatening Behavior (v.27, no.1). The reviewer finds the work uneven, & is especially disturbed by the lack of discussion about biological aspects of suicide & depression. Various lesser problems with individual papers are also identified.
