A 5-Year Follow-up Study of Suicide Attempts Among French Adolescents

The social, medical, & psychological outcomes of 552 French adolescents hospitalized subsequent to suicide attempt were assessed after an average 5-year follow-up period. The mean annual mortality rate of attempters was found to be 7-fold greater than in the general population of the same age. Education level was lower, & the consumption of alcohol, psychiatric hospitalizations, & contacts with criminal justice system were more frequent than in compared controls. (24 refs)
